B6N.FVB-Tg(Slc6a11-cre/ERT2)1Khakh/J
Cat. No.: CEMM-07250746
Common Name: Slc6a11-Cre/ERT2 BAC transgenic (GAT3-Cre/ERT2)
Slc6a11-Cre/ERT2 BAC transgenic mice have tamoxifen-inducible Cre recombinase expression directed at moderate levels to astrocytes and neurons. These mice allow inducible genetic manipulations in vivo for studying astrocyte and neuron biology of GAT3+ cells.

Molecular Note |
The transgene contains the entire solute carrier family 6 (neurotransmitter transporter GABA) member 11 locus (Slc6a11 [GAT3 or Gabt4]), as well as ~48 kbp 5' (centromeric) flanking region and ~36 kbp 3' (telomeric) flanking region from BAC. Using homologous recombination/BAC recombineering, a CreER cDNA sequence followed by an SV40 polyadenylation signal was inserted into exon 1 of the BAC Slc6a11 gene immediately preceding the translation initiation codon. No other loci on the BAC were altered. Unstated number of founder lines with germline transmission are generated.

Breeding Considerations |
Hemizygous mice are viable and fertile with no reported gross physical or behavioral abnormalities. it has not been attempted to make this strain homozygous. When maintaining a live colony, hemizygous mice may be bred with wildtype (non-carrier) mice from the colony or with C57BL/6NJ inbred mice.
