B6(C)-Tg(CAG-mCherry, -GAL4)774Gsn/J

Cat. No.: CEMM-07250339

These transgenic mice carry both an mCherry fluorescent gene flanked by loxP sites and the yeast transcription activator protein GAL4 under the control of a cytomegalovirus enhancer/beta actin promoter (CAG). This strain may be effectively used as a component of the GAL4-UAS (Upstream Activation Sequence) system to activate gene transcription.

Site of Expression
These mice express mCherry, but not GAL4 in the absence of Cre. When crossed with a Cre strain, mCherry is excised and GAL4 can be expressed in tissues of interest.

Molecular Note
A 1.7 kb cytomegalovirus (CMV) early enhancer element/chicken beta-actin (CAG) promoter drives expression of a loxP-flanked mCherry fluorescent gene (0.7 kb) and a 2.9 kb yeast transcription activator GAL4 open ready frame.

Breeding Considerations
When maintaining the live colony, hemizygous mice may be bred with wildtype (non-carrier) mice from the colony or with C57BL/6J inbred mice. Homozygous viability/fertility were not determined by the donating laboratory.
