GfralCreERT mice have the endogenous GDNF family receptor alpha like (Gfral) promoter/enhancer sequences directing expression of tamoxifen-inducible Cre recombinase. These mice are a Cre-lox tool allowing inducible Cre recombination in Gfral-expressing cells/tissues (including neurons of the area postrema and nucleus of the solitary tract) and may be useful for studying feeding behavior, obesity, and metabolism.

Using CRISPR/Cas9 endonuclease-mediated genome editing, an IRES enhancer sequence and CreER(T2) fusion gene were inserted immediately downstream of the GDNF family receptor alpha-like locus (Gfral) on chromosome 9. An ampicillin gene is segregating with the mutation of interest.

Both heterozygous and homozygous mice are viable and fertile with normal breeding, and no reported gross phenotypic or behavioral abnormalities. When maintaining a live colony, homozygous mice may be bred together.
