B6.129S1(Cg)-Rai1tm2.1Luo/J

Cat. No.: CEMM-07250715

Common Name: Rai1-flox (Rai1flox)
The Rai1flox allele has loxP sites flanking exon 3 of the retinoic acid induced 1 gene. Removal of the floxed sequence creates a null allele. These mice may be useful in studying circuit assembly and neuronal communication in human disorders such as Smith-Magenis syndrome(SMS).

Molecular Note
A targeting vector was designed to insert a FRT5-flanked neo cassette (frt5-pSV40-Neo-pA-frt5) and a loxP site upstream of exon 3, and a loxP downstream of exon 3. Flp-mediated recombination removed the FRT5-flanked neo cassette.

Breeding Considerations
Mice homozygous for the Rai1flox allele are viable and fertile with no reported gross physical or behavioral abnormalities. When maintaining a live colony, heterozygous mice may be bred together, to wildtype mice from the colony or to C57BL/6J inbred mice. Alternatively, homozygous mice may be bred together.
