B6;129S-Tg(CAG-Bgeo, -MYC)1Saa/J

Cat. No.: CEMM-07250658

Common Name: Z-MYC
This strain is undergoing genetic quality control evaluation and is currently unavailable.Z-Myc transgenic mice conditionally express human c-Myc. Widespread lacZ expression is observed except in those tissues where Cre recombination has resulted in the human c-Myc to be expressed instead. These mice allow inducible c-Myc overexpression in specific tissues, and are useful in studying cancer.

Site of Expression
ß-galactosidase (LacZ) expression is widespread until combination with Cre recombinase When human c-Myc is then expressed in Cre-expressing tissues (with continued LacZ expression in other tissues).

Molecular Note
This transgene contains from 5' to 3', the CMV-IE enhancer/chicken beta-actin/rabbit beta-globin hybrid promoter, a loxP-flanked STOP cassette (beta-galactosidase/neomycin resistance cassette [beta-geo] with three copies of the SV40 polyA termination signal) and the 1.8 kbp human myelocytomatosis oncogene cDNA sequence (MYC; including exons 2 and 3 and polyA site). The 10.8 kbp transgene was linearized and transfected into 129S/SvEv-derived embryonic stem (ES) cells. An ES cell clone with a single-copy transgene integration was selected for injection into blastocysts. Constitutive beta-galactosidase (lacZ) expression is directed to multiple tissue types. Removal of the STOP cassette by Cre-mediated recombination results in removal of lacZ and expression of MYC.

Breeding Considerations
When maintaining a live colony, transgenic mice may be bred with wildtype (non-carrier) mice from the colony or with C57BL/6J inbred mice. it has not been attempted to make this strain homozygous.
